Message content in notifications
Because the Flowsy server can’t read your messages, it can’t put the message text in a notification. The notification arrives on your device locked, and the message is unlocked on your phone just before the notification is shown. That’s how the notification can show the message text or a short summary such as 📷 Photo.
Why do I sometimes see “New message”?
If the message can’t be unlocked on your device right then, the notification only says New message. This usually happens when:
- You haven’t opened Flowsy for a long time: Your device first needs to catch up on changes in between (for example, new members joining a group). The short time a notification gets may not be enough.
- The Flowsy tab is closed in your browser: On Flowsy Web, Flowsy needs to be open in a tab to unlock the message.
- The desktop app couldn’t unlock the message right then.
- The connection is weak or a temporary problem occurred.
Your message isn’t lost. When you tap the notification or open Flowsy, the message appears in the chat as usual.
Replying from a notification
A reply you write from a notification is encrypted just like messages you send from the app. If the reply can’t be sent right then, it isn’t lost; it’s sent when you open Flowsy.
To change your notification preferences, see Notification settings.
