Format messages

As you write your messages, you can format them with the characters below. The formatting looks the same on all devices once the message is sent.

• Bold: Put an asterisk on both sides of the text: *text*
• Italic: Put an underscore on both sides of the text: _text_
• Strikethrough: Put a tilde on both sides of the text: ~text~
• Inline code: Put a backtick on both sides of the text: `text`
• Code block: Put three backticks on both sides of the text: ```text```
• Quote: Type > at the start of the line.
• Bulleted list: Type - or * at the start of the line.
• Numbered list: Type 1. at the start of the line.

On your phone, you can also use the formatting bar that appears when you select text.
