End-to-end encryption
Your messages in one-to-one and group chats on Flowsy are end-to-end encrypted. A message is locked on the device you send it from and unlocks only on the devices of the people in the chat. It stays locked on the way and on Flowsy’s servers; no one, not even Flowsy, can read its content.
Encryption works automatically. You don’t need to turn it on or change any settings.
What’s encrypted?
- Text messages, replies and messages you forward
- Photos, videos, documents, voice messages, video notes and stickers
- Reactions
- Polls and votes
- Location and live location
- Contact cards you share and link previews
Between your own devices
Your phone, computer and browser send some information to each other encrypted among themselves: your contacts, your privacy and notification preferences, and the people you’ve blocked. The Flowsy server only passes this information along while it’s locked.
The message history transferred to a new device is also encrypted between your devices; see Encryption when linking a new device.
Questions you ask Flowsy AI
A question you ask with @Flowsy AI in a chat is sent encrypted, together with the recent messages needed for the answer. Only Flowsy AI’s own secure device can open them; the chat server can’t read them. Flowsy AI reads your question to prepare the answer and looks up information only with your permissions. The answer arrives in the chat encrypted, like any other message.
For details, see Use Flowsy AI in a chat.
Verifying encryption
When you open a person’s info in a one-to-one chat, you see the Encryption row. By comparing the security code there with the other person, you can make sure no one has come between you; see Verify the security code.
What isn’t encrypted?
Some information needed to deliver messages to the right people (for example who a message is from and when it was sent) and chat states such as read receipts or mute aren’t encrypted. For the full list, see Known limits of encryption.
