Disappearing messages

When you turn on disappearing messages, new messages sent to the chat disappear after the time you choose.

Turn on disappearing messages in a chat

1. Open the chat and tap the ⋯ menu at the top right.
2. Tap Disappearing messages.
3. Choose the duration: 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. To turn it off, choose Off.

The setting applies only to messages sent from now on; older messages aren’t affected. In groups, who can change this setting depends on the group permissions.

Default timer for new chats

Tap You > Privacy > Default message timer and choose the duration. This applies to one-on-one chats you start from now on; existing chats aren’t affected.

Keep a message

If you don’t want a disappearing message to go away, press and hold the message and tap Keep. To undo, choose Unkeep.

Note: Disappearing messages don’t stop the recipient from taking a screenshot or copying the message. Share sensitive information only with people you trust.
