Back up your chats

A chat backup lets you restore your messages if you lose your phone or switch to a new one. Backups are saved to iCloud on iPhone and to Google Drive on Android, and they are always encrypted.

Before you start

You need to be signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive turned on: iPhone Settings > your name > iCloud. On the backup screen in Flowsy, the iCloud row should show On.

Before you start

On the backup screen, tap the Google account row and choose the account to save backups to. If no account is selected, the row shows Choose account.

Back up manually

  1. Tap You > Chats > Chat Backup.
  2. Tap Back up.

Progress for messages and media is shown while the backup runs; you can tap Stop if needed. If a backup is interrupted, the next one continues where it left off. When it finishes you’ll see Backup complete, and the date of your last backup and its total size appear at the top of the screen.

Automatic backups

  1. On the backup screen, tap Auto backup.
  2. Choose Daily, Weekly or Monthly. To turn it off, choose Off.

Automatic backups run in the background when your phone allows it, even when Flowsy is closed. While Back up using cellular is off, automatic backups only run on Wi-Fi. On Android, automatic backups are postponed when the battery is low.

What’s backed up?

  • Your messages and chats, call history and chat themes.
  • Photos, voice messages and documents. Videos are backed up only if Include videos is on.

Unsent messages, drafts and expired disappearing messages aren’t included. Your tasks, workflows and Flowsy Assistant chats are already stored in your account, so they aren’t added to the backup.

Delete your backup

Tap Delete backup at the bottom of the backup screen and confirm. This can’t be undone.

Note: Chat backup is currently available only in the Flowsy mobile app. The desktop app and Flowsy Web get your messages from your phone; see Transfer message history to a new device.
