Add a member tag in a group

A member tag is a short note that appears under your name in a group, such as “Purchasing lead” or “Izmir office”. You can use a different tag in each group, and only you can add your own tag.

Add or edit your tag

  1. Open the group chat and tap the group name at the top.
  2. In the member list, tap Add member tag on your own row. If you already have a tag, tap it.
  3. Type your tag and tap Save.

A tag can be up to 30 characters; an emoji counts as one character. The Preview section at the bottom of the window shows how your tag will look.

To remove your tag, tap the trash icon (Delete member tag) in the same window.

Where does it appear?

  • Under the sender’s name in group messages
  • Under your name in the group info member list

When you change your tag, your older messages show the new one too. Everyone in the group, including people who join later, can see your tag.

Who can add a tag?

Group admins decide this with the Edit user details setting in Group permissions:

  • On: All members can add their own tag.
  • Off: Only admins can add a tag, and only admins’ tags are shown.

A notice appears in the group when the setting changes. For details, see Group permissions.
